Job summary

Amazon seeks a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer for the Leo Inter-Satellite Link team in Redmond, WA. You will design ground support equipment, fixtures, and tooling for satellite systems, with heavy emphasis on 3D CAD, prototyping, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

You will lead design reviews, coordinate with multiple teams, and support development through qualification and production, delivering robust, scalable hardware for space applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of CAD design experience.
• 7+ years in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years hardware design and development at scale (high end precision mechanisms preferred).
• Experience with prototyping and implementation.
• DFM/DFA and manufacturing process development.
• Experience with NX and TeamCenter.
• Experience designing production fixturing and tooling.
• Knowledge of Ansys Finite Element analysis tool.
• 5+ years of aerospace systems development, testing, deployment.
• Ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, and Firmware teams to define and drive scope.
• Strong time management and attention to detail.
• Cost estimation for production, labor, and materials; reading production schedules.
• Experience with JIRA/Confluence.

Responsibilities

• Lead a variety of tasks and development projects across disciplines to guide technical approaches.
• Generate detailed 3D CAD assemblies and drawings for assembly, alignment and test GSE for satellite systems.
• Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing and program management to ensure design intent and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop documentation and materials for technical design reviews.
• Design and support test campaigns for space and GSE hardware.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive production-ready designs.
