Job summary

Amazon Leo in Redmond, WA is seeking a senior mechanical/aerospace engineer to design and develop spacecraft mechanisms. You will negotiate requirements, create CAD models, perform FEA, and drive tests to ensure reliability and producibility at volume and very low cost.

The role requires hands-on work, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and leadership to move concepts to production while maintaining simplicity and cost discipline.

Qualifications

• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
• 5+ years experience in aerospace, defense or automotive design/manufacturing in a Lead Engineering role.

Responsibilities

• Identify and analyze requirements, conceive and develop trade studies on mechanism design options.
• Create and iterate CAD models of design options – mechanism geometry, materials/lubrication selections, assembly processes and test methods.
• Analyze load conditions (static, dynamic, thermal, fatigue) for compliance using FEA.
• Develop test plans with DOEs and statistical analysis for long-term reliability.
• Define qualification plans and identify acceptance testing methods at volume production.
• Facilitate cost trades on multiple configurations for manufacturability vs design uncertainty.
• Produce complete design packages – drawings, analysis reports, BOMs, assembly documentation.
