Job summary

Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria in Melbourne is seeking a strategic policy leader to head a multi-disciplinary team. You will develop and deliver operational policy and procedures for Youth Justice Operations, ensuring alignment with contemporary best practices and legal requirements.

You will provide expert guidance on policy issues, oversee charter assessments, and build cross-team partnerships to deliver shared goals across custodial and community settings.

Qualifications

• Leads a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality work within timeframes.
• Significant knowledge of Youth Justice environment and best practice.
• Strong ability to analyse complex operational, policy and legal issues.
• Experience interpreting legislation or applying legal/administrative rules.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of policy and project staff to develop, review and maintain operational policy, procedures and practice guidelines, ensuring guidance reflects contemporary best practice.
• Ensure operational policy, procedures and practice guidelines comply with Youth Justice Act 2024, the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 and other legislation.
• Lead Charter assessments of operational policies, procedures and practice guidelines and provide authoritative advice on legal, policy and operational issues.
• Build collaborative partnerships across Operational Policy and Workforce and the broader Youth Justice group to align priorities and support coordinated delivery of common goals.
