Job summary
Electro Optic Systems (EOS) in Canberra is seeking a Senior Laser Scientist to lead laser design, assembly, alignment, testing and maintenance within the Space Systems R&D team. You will document results and report progress to leadership while collaborating across disciplines to advance EOS IP.
The role requires hands-on experience with bulk solid-state or fibre lasers, high-power laser systems, and strong Matlab/Python/C++ programming skills.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with bulk solid-state or fibre laser systems.
- Experience with the alignment and operation of Class 4 lasers, pulsed and CW.
- Experience with high power laser systems.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Experience with Matlab or a programming language (Python, C++).
- Experience with laser resonator modelling software.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the development of new laser subsystems, primarily high energy lasers for ground-to-space applications.
- Work alongside other engineering disciplines and communicate system requirements.
- Contribute to the instrumentation of cutting-edge opto-electronics subsystems.
- Combine novel technologies or concepts to support EOS IP.
- Support the Engineering teams and communicate activity and progress to the respective discipline manager and VPs.
- Undertake and document investigative experiments to inform the company’s research activities.
- Actively teach other staff skills and concepts to assist knowledge growth.
