Job summary

Electro Optic Systems (EOS Space Systems) is a laser and electro-optics technology developer working on high-energy laser systems and ground-to-space applications. We seek a Laser Scientist or Engineer to design, assemble, align, test and maintain laser subsystems within a dynamic R&D team.

The role involves writing technical documentation, reporting, and collaborating with electronics, software and mechanical teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in physics/engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with bulk solid-state and/or laser systems.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with development of new laser subsystems for ground-to-space applications.
  • Handle laser design, component specification, assembly, alignment and optimisation.
  • Collaborate with electronics, software and mechanical teams to define system requirements.
  • Contribute to instrumentation of opto-electronics subsystems and EOS IP.
  • Document investigative experiments and report progress to discipline managers and VPs.
  • Support knowledge improvement and capability development within the group.

Position Overview

EOS Space Systems is a laser and electro-optics technology developer and systems integration company, dealing primarily with leading edge space domain awareness systems and custom observatories in Australia and overseas.

EOS Space Systems develops a wide range of High Energy Laser (HEL) systems and High Power Laser (HPL) with advanced electronic control and instrumentation sub-systems.

The position is for a Laser Scientist or Engineer within the EOS Space Systems Research & Development (R&D) team. A successful candidate is expected to undertake laser design, assembly, alignment, testing and maintenance. Also, writing technical documentation and reporting is also part of the routine.

Primary Duties

Assist with the development of new laser subsystems, primarily high energy lasers for ground-to-space applications. Includes laser design, component specification, assembly, optical alignment, and optimisation, Work alongside other engineering disciplines (electronics, software, mechanical) and communicate system requirements, Contribute to the Instrumentation of cutting-edge opto-electronics subsystems, Combine novel technologies or concepts to support the innovation and development of EOS IP, Support the Engineering teams and communicate activity and progress to the respective discipline manager and VPs, Undertake and document investigative experiments to inform the company’s research activities, Assist the general improvement of knowledge and capability within the group.

Skills And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics/engineering or a related field,
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with bulk solid-state and/or laser systems,
  • Experience with the alignment and operation of Class 4 lasers, pulsed and CW
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills,
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance.

Desirable

  • Post graduate qualifications or previous industry experience,
  • Experience with high energy laser systems, pulsed and CW,
  • Experience combining multiple technical disciplines, e.g. electronics and mechanics, mathematics and software, opto-electronics etc.,
  • Experience with ISO9001 quality systems,
  • Experience with laser resonator modelling software,
  • Experience with optical design software Zemax,
  • Experience with Matlab or a programming language (Python, C++).
