Job summary

Jobgether seeks a Senior Java Engineer (Payments) based in Australia for a fully remote role with a payments consultancy focus. You will own end-to-end systems, architect scalable solutions, and drive secure, compliant financial transaction platforms across multiple clients.

You will lead design decisions, mentor engineers, and partner with product, solution architects, and DevOps to deliver robust, observable systems while embracing AI-assisted coding for efficiency and quality.

Qualifications

• Seven years of professional Java development experience.
• Hands-on experience with payments/fintech systems and transaction lifecycles.
• Advanced Java 21+ and Spring Boot for RESTful and event-driven microservices.
• Experience with Apache Kafka, asynchronous processing, idempotence, exact-once semantics.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL and MySQL; ORM with Hibernate/JPA.
• Strong API design with REST/OpenAPI and external integrations.
• Build/delivery tooling with Gradle/Maven; CI/CD incl. GitHub Actions, Helm, Terraform.
• Cloud-native with AWS; Docker and Kubernetes for deployment.
• Testing and observability using JUnit 5, Mockito, Testcontainers; OpenTelemetry/Prometheus/Grafana.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted coding and secure coding practices.
• Security: OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, mTLS; optional HSM and ISO 20022 awareness.
• Leadership: mentoring, code reviews, architectural decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable Java applications using Spring Boot and microservices architecture.
• Lead technical architecture, define service boundaries, data models, and non-functional requirements.
• Deliver payment platforms and integrations with external systems and providers.
• Ensure reliability, security, and regulatory compliance across platforms.
• Build event-driven systems with Apache Kafka and reliable messaging.
• Collaborate with product managers, solution architects, and DevOps engineers.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, testing, observability, and deployment processes.
• Promote code quality through reviews and engineering best practices.
• Manage production incidents with root-cause analyses and durable fixes.
• Integrate AI-assisted development into daily workflows with validation.
