Job summary

Optus is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist to join the Telco IP & PE team in Sydney. You will design and deliver IP network connectivity solutions for critical platforms across the Optus network, translating business needs into robust designs and production implementations.

You will lead high‑impact projects, onboard routers and switches across provider edge networks, and collaborate with vendors, internal teams and customers to ensure scalable, secure and reliable network services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 15+ years of IP network engineering experience with leadership roles.
• Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, EVPN, QoS.
• Experience designing BNG, CGNAT, Telco Cloud Connect edge router in on‑prem and hybrid cloud.
• Automation experience with Ansible, NSO and Netconf/YANG.
• Strong communication, mentoring, vendor management and problem‑solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design IP network connectivity solutions aligned to architectures and templates.
• Develop low-level designs, documentation, automation configurations, testing plans and implementation activities.
• Onboard routers and switches across the Telco IP network, including large-scale edge solutions (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia).
• Collaborate with internal customers, project teams, vendors and IP teams to clarify requirements and finalize solutions.
• Provide technical recommendations, impact assessments and design support for projects and escalations.
• Build trusted relationships and communicate complex solutions clearly, supporting escalation meetings and action plans.
