Job summary

Harmony Australasia is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to identify geotechnical hazards and mitigate risks in an underground mining context. The role involves contributing to long-term mine design, maintaining geotechnical records, and coordinating backfill strategies.

You will work onsite at CSA Mine, Cobar, NSW on a FIFO roster from Brisbane or Sydney. A strong background in geotechnical modelling, CAD (Deswik), Rocscience, and seismic monitoring is required, with mentoring

Qualifications

• Degree in Mining, Geology, Civil, or related Engineering field.
• Manual Driver License.
• 5–10 years of experience in underground mining, with at least 5 years in a geotechnical role.
• Familiarisation with backfill design and inrush controls.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.
• Proficient with CAD software (Deswik preferred).
• Proficient with numerical modelling & geotechnical software (Rocscience).
• Experience with seismic monitoring software (IMS).
• Experience with ground instrumentation monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Identify improvements in geotechnical/backfill to enhance safety, efficiency and mine operation.
• Ensure all geotechnical/backfill aspects meet company standards and regulations.
• Ensure all critical controls are in place.
• Review and update PHMPs, TARPS and SWIs.
• Identify long-term geotechnical hazards and provide mitigation strategies.
• Contribute geotechnical input to long-term mine design (3MRS, LOM, LOA).
• Develop and maintain geotechnical records and databases.
• Develop, review and maintain geotechnical monitoring and seismic systems.
• Perform numerical modelling to improve geotechnical analysis.
• Apply critical controls in backfill work plans.
• Collaborate with underground stakeholders to support targets.
• Provide cost and budget input to the Geotech/SURVEY/Backfill Superintendent.
• Mentor and assist career development of the team.
