Job summary

Aurec is seeking a Senior Exchange Specialist Infrastructure Engineer to join a Federal Government ICT team in Canberra. You will maintain and modernise enterprise messaging across on-prem Exchange and M365/Exchange Online in a hybrid environment.

You will lead migrations, implement security controls, and design automated PowerShell workflows, collaborating with project managers and external providers in a high-security setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in Microsoft hybrid messaging environments (Exchange on-premises and M365/Exchange Online).
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation capabilities.
• Capacity management and performance monitoring for messaging systems.
• Ability to articulate technical recommendations to stakeholders and managers.
• Knowledge of email security, governance, and compliance controls.

Role & Responsibilities

• Support, configure, and enhance both on-premise Exchange and Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online messaging systems.

• Implement and enforce email security, governance, and compliance controls across all messaging infrastructure.

• Lead email migration, platform modernisation, and service enhancement activities in a hybrid enterprise environment.

• Design and execute systems solutions, capacity management strategies, and automated PowerShell scripts to streamline operational workflows.

• Author comprehensive technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and handover guides for the departmental recordkeeping repository.

• Collaborate closely with project managers, cross-functional ICT teams, and external service providers to ensure seamless service delivery.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this position, you will ideally bring:

• Technical Toolkit: Deep technical expertise in Microsoft Exchange (2019/SE) and M365/Exchange Online, PowerShell automation, capacity management, and Arctera (Veritas) Enterprise Vault or similar enterprise archiving platforms.

• Experience: Proven track record operating within complex Microsoft hybrid messaging environments and leading systems installation, decommissioning, and infrastructure maintenance projects.

• Core Capabilities: Strong problem-solving, problem management, and systems design skills (SFIA Level 4/5 aligned), with a clear ability to articulate technical recommendations to stakeholders and managers.
