Job summary

Willow Recruitment is assisting a well-established commercial contractor to appoint a Senior Estimator in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs. You will shape tender strategy and work with clients, consultants and the delivery team to develop commercially sound construction solutions.

You will manage tenders from initial review through to final submission, prepare detailed estimates, scope trade packages, obtain quotations and develop cost plans while identifying risks and value opportunities.

Qualifications

• Significant estimating experience with a commercial head contractor.
• Experience preparing detailed commercial construction tenders.
• Strong knowledge of construction costs and trade packages.
• Excellent communication and negotiation capability.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Estimator to join my client - an established commercial construction business with a significant presence and growing project pipeline across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.

This is a senior role within a business experiencing continued growth and with a strong pipeline of upcoming construction work.

You will have the opportunity to play an important part in shaping the projects the business pursues, contribute to pre-construction strategy and work with an experienced leadership and delivery team.

This dynamic role will suit an experienced estimator who enjoys being involved beyond simply putting a number together - working collaboratively with clients, consultants, subcontractors and the delivery team to develop commercially sound construction solutions.

About The Role

Reporting into senior management, you will take responsibility for the preparation and management of tenders across a range of commercial construction projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing tenders from initial review through to final submission
• Detailed measurement and preparation of estimates
• Trade package scoping and procurement
• Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations
• Preparing detailed cost plans and tender submissions
• Identifying project risks, opportunities and value management initiatives
• Reviewing documentation and resolving tender queries
• Liaising with clients, consultants and subcontractors throughout the tender process
• Developing construction methodologies and preliminary programs
• Maintaining strong relationships with the local subcontractor market
• Supporting and mentoring other members of the estimating team
• Assisting with tender handover to project delivery teams

About You

You will be an experienced construction estimator with a strong understanding of the commercial building market and the ability to independently manage complex tenders.

Ideally you will have:

• Significant estimating experience with a commercial head contractor
• Strong knowledge of construction methodology and trade packages
• Excellent understanding of construction costs and the subcontractor market
• Experience preparing detailed commercial construction tenders
• Strong analytical and commercial skills
• Excellent communication and negotiation capability
• A collaborative approach to working with clients, consultants and delivery teams
• Relevant construction, engineering or quantity surveying qualifications
• Knowledge of the Toowoomba/Darling Downs subcontractor market would be particularly advantageous.
