Job summary

Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the design and delivery of scalable, cloud-native payment solutions within Payments Technology in Melbourne. You’ll mentor engineers, set technical direction and influence architecture across multiple squads while focusing on mandate management and scheduled payments.

You’ll work across Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, TypeScript, AWS and Kafka, building secure, high-performance systems and championing CI/CD, observability and production lifecycle

Qualifications

• Proven experience building scalable, cloud-native Java/Node.js systems.
• Strong architectural judgment with API and microservices design.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and Kubernetes.
• Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka.
• Ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction.
• Strong CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across teams.
