Job summary

CommBank is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in Payments Technology to lead the design and delivery of scalable, high-performance payment solutions on cloud-native platforms. You will mentor engineers, shape technical direction, and influence architecture across multiple squads while focusing on mandate management and scheduled payments within the PayTo product area.

Qualifications

• Experience leading through influence and technical direction.
• Strong architectural judgment and system design skills.
• Hands-on experience designing APIs, microservices and distributed applications.
• Cloud-native engineering experience with AWS and Kubernetes.
• Experience designing or working with event-driven architectures and Kafka.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD and DevSecOps, including observability and resilience.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and engineering direction across complex software initiatives.
• Lead system design and make pragmatic architectural decisions for secure, scalable and high-performance distributed applications.
• Design and evolve APIs and microservices using Java/Spring Boot, Node.js and TypeScript.
• Build cloud-native solutions using AWS, Kubernetes, containerisation and Infrastructure as Code.
• Apply event-driven architecture and messaging technologies such as Kafka.
• Coach and mentor engineers while influencing engineering standards across teams.
• Contribute to the evolution of PayTo and mandate-management capabilities supporting scheduled payments.
