Job summary

AVE Technologies is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead engineering work, mentor engineers and designers, and ensure deliverables meet high standards. You will review drawings, attend site inspections and support project and sales activities across multiple projects in Newcastle and Muswellbrook.

You will bring a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 5+ years of experience, with strong knowledge of Australian Standards, and proficiency in MS Office and engineering software.

• 5+ years' relevant engineering experience across industrial, infrastructure or similar environments.
• Experience mentoring or developing engineers, graduates or technical staff.
• Ability to support scopes, estimates, tenders, proposals and technical client discussions.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, calculations, documentation and other deliverables before release; identify gaps and ask the right questions.
• Attend site inspections, client meetings, commissioning and project discussions to apply experience and technical judgement.
• Assist sales and project teams to develop scopes, estimates, proposals and quotes; translate client problems into practical solutions.
• Monitor engineering hours, project progress, scope changes and deliverables; address drift early.

Senior Engineer- Lead Great Engineering. Build Great People.

We're looking for a Senior Engineer who knows their stuff, enjoys solving problems and actually likes helping other people get better at what they do. Based in Newcastle, you will be required to travel to Muswellbrook depending what projects you are working on with the team.

This is more than a technical role. You'll be one of the people the team looks to when a project gets complicated, a design needs another set of eyes, a client needs a technical answer or an engineer needs some guidance.

You'll take ownership of engineering work within your discipline, support project and sales teams, mentor engineers and designers, and help make sure the work leaving AVE is technically sound, practical and delivered to a high standard.

In short, you'll help us deliver great engineering and build a stronger engineering team while you're at it.

What you'll actually do

• Lead the engineering- Take ownership of engineering work within your discipline and make sure projects are technically sound, practical and delivered properly.

• Help people get better- Mentor Engineers, Graduate Engineers, Designers and technical team members. Share what you know, challenge thinking and help people build their confidence and capability.

• Be the technical second set of eyes- Review drawings, calculations, documentation and other engineering deliverables before they head out the door. Spot the gaps, ask the right questions and help the team get it right.

• Get involved in the real work- Attend site inspections, client meetings, commissioning and project discussions where your experience and technical judgement can make a difference.

• Help win the work- Work with the sales and project teams to develop scopes, estimates, proposals and quotes. Help turn a client problem into a practical engineering solution.

• Keep projects moving- Keep an eye on engineering hours, project progress, scope changes, variations and outstanding deliverables. If something is starting to drift, we want you to see it early and do something about it.

• Bring your judgement- We're not looking for someone who needs a checklist for every decision. You'll need to understand the problem, consider the risks and come up with a solution that works technically, commercially and in the real world.

• Keep safety front and centre- Work in accordance with WHS requirements, safe work procedures, risk controls, Australian Standards, industry codes and AVE's engineering and delivery standards.

About you

You're an experienced engineer who is comfortable taking responsibility, making decisions and getting involved. You'll ideally have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent tertiary qualifications relevant to the role

• 5+ years' relevant engineering experience, ideally across industrial, infrastructure, utilities, automation, operational technology, manufacturing, construction or similar environments

• Experience delivering complex engineering work and reviewing the work of other engineers or technical team members

• Experience mentoring or developing less experienced engineers, graduates, designers or technical staff

• The ability to support scopes, estimates, tenders, proposals and technical client discussions

• Strong knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, industry requirements and engineering practices within your discipline

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software

• Strong communication skills and the ability to talk technical with engineers and practical with clients and project teams

• The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities without losing sight of quality, deadlines or the details

• A current driver's licence and relevant site inductions where required
