AVE Technologies, a Newcastle-based engineering company, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design and commissioning across industrial projects. The role involves design development, drafting, installation, testing and on-site commissioning with travel to Muswellbrook and other sites.
You will collaborate with electrical, automation and project teams and contribute to creating accurate as‑built documentation while ensuring design quality and safety.
AVE Technologies is a Newcastle-based engineering and technology company delivering electrical, automation, communications and technology solutions across industrial, heavy industry, energy and critical infrastructure projects.
We are growing and looking for an Electrical Engineer who can think, design and deliver. Someone who enjoys getting into the detail, solving problems and seeing a project through from design to commissioning.
This is a hands‑on Electrical Engineer role based in Newcastle, with regular travel to Muswellbrook and other project sites to support AVE's heavy industry projects.
You will work across the full project lifecycle, from understanding the scope and developing designs through to installation, testing and commissioning. A strong focus of the role will be electrical drafting, including creating new drawings, reviewing existing documentation and identifying what is missing, incorrect or could be improved.
You will work closely with AVE's electrical, communications, automation and project teams across a range of industrial environments. The work will be varied and practical, with projects that require you to understand the problem, find the gap and develop a solution that works in the real world.
Read, interpret and produce electrical drawings including SLDs, schematics, cable schedules and control layouts
Develop and review electrical designs for industrial and heavy industry applications
Identify gaps, errors, risks and opportunities within designs and take ownership of the solution
Manage engineering components of projects from scope and design through to delivery and commissioning
Attend project sites to undertake inspections, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting
Support risk assessments, technical investigations and project planning
Liaise with clients, contractors, electricians, engineers and internal project teams
Review existing installations and documentation and develop accurate as‑built information
Maintain accurate engineering documentation, drawings and project records
Provide technical support to the wider AVE team throughout project delivery
Travel to Muswellbrook and other project sites as required by your client group
You will be an Electrical Engineer who enjoys practical problem solving and working close to the project, not someone who wants to sit behind a desk all day.
You will ideally have:
A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
2 to 5+ years' experience in electrical engineering, ideally within heavy industry, mining, industrial or infrastructure environments
Strong electrical drafting skills and the ability to create and modify drawings, not just read them
Experience with CAD and electrical design software
Knowledge of circuit design, control systems and PLCs
Strong problem solving skills and the ability to work through technical issues independently
Experience supporting or managing engineering projects from design through to delivery
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
The ability to work effectively with engineers, electricians, project managers, clients and contractors
A practical approach and willingness to get onto site and understand how things work in the real world
A current Australian driver's licence
