Job summary

Next Day Recruitment is seeking a Senior Electrical Project Engineer for a Sydney-based engineering and manufacturing business that designs, builds, tests and installs packaged diesel generator systems. You will lead electrical design, manage fault studies, size cables to AS/NZS standards, and drive FAT and site handover while mentoring junior engineers.

You’ll interact with clients, consultants and suppliers on technical queries, ensuring delivery to schedule and budget and stepping up as 2IC

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (CPEng/NER registration or eligibility highly regarded).
• 10–15+ years of engineering experience with custom generator packaging and MV/LV switchboards.
• Proven track record delivering turnkey power solutions into data centres, hospitals, heavy industry, or utilities.
• Advanced proficiency in fault, protection, and discrimination studies, plus cable sizing to AS/NZS 3008 and 61439.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and leadership maturity to step up as 2IC to Head of Department.
• Full Australian working rights and a stable career history.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design on generator and switchgear packages: alternator selection and derating, neutral earthing, paralleling and load sharing, ATS and changeover, N+1 and 2N configurations.
• Fault current and protection studies, discrimination, relay and breaker settings, overloads.
• Cable sizing to AS/NZS 3008, cable and termination schedules, busbar and switchboard ratings to AS/NZS 61439.
• Check and sign off schematics, single line diagrams, switchboard GAs, control and interface drawings in AutoCAD Electrical.
• Check designs against engine and alternator manufacturer limits, including ventilation, exhaust back pressure and acoustic attenuation, with the mechanical team.
• Run factory acceptance tests and load bank testing, then site commissioning and handover documentation.
• Front clients, consultants and suppliers on technical queries, driving project delivery to schedule and budget.
• Mentor the junior engineer and drafters. Stand in for the Head of Department.

You’ll be working with an established Sydney engineering and manufacturing business that designs, builds, tests and installs packaged diesel generator systems the sets themselves, the acoustic enclosures, fuel and exhaust systems, LV and MV switchboards, paralleling and changeover switchgear, and the controls that tie it all together.

Their work goes into data centres, hospitals, utilities, telecoms and heavy industry across Australia. Sydney based, west of the city.

What you will be doing:
