Job summary

Logical is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to design critical power systems for data centres across Australia. You will develop MV/LV distribution, UPS, generators, and N+1/2N redundancy, and collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

You’ll mentor junior engineers and lead design packages, applying AS/NZS 3000 and standards, with hands-on studies using ETAP or DIgSILENT.

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical engineering (essential). CPEng, RPEQ or NER registration is highly regarded.
• Experience designing MV/LV power systems for large buildings or critical facilities.
• Exposure to power system studies and protection design; ownership of studies encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Design critical power systems from concept through construction (MV/LV, UPS, gensets, N+1/2N).
• Produce single line diagrams, load schedules and design docs.
• Run power system studies (load flow, fault level, protection) using ETAP/DIgSILENT.
• Apply AS/NZS 3000 and liaise with network providers for connections.
• Collaborate with clients, architects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentor junior engineers; lead design packages in senior roles.

Electrical Design Engineer – Data Centres & Mission Critical

Sydney | Melbourne | Brisbane | Perth | Canberra (flexible / hybrid)

Data centre investment in Australia is at a record high, with hyperscale campuses, colocation expansions and grid connections being built across the country. Our clients are delivering some of these projects. They need Electrical Design Engineers to design the critical power systems that keep them running.

Whether you’re designing MV/LV systems for large commercial buildings and want to move into data centres, or you’ve already delivered 2N hyperscale facilities and want a bigger say in the design, there’s a role at your level.

What you’ll do

• Design critical power systems from concept through to construction, including MV/LV distribution, UPS, generators and N+1 / 2N redundancy.
• Produce and own single line diagrams, load schedules and design documentation.
• Run or lead power system studies such as load flow, fault level, protection coordination and arc flash, using ETAP, DIgSILENT or similar.
• Apply AS/NZS 3000 and related standards, and work with network service providers on connection applications.
• Work directly with clients, architects and the mechanical and controls teams in design workshops.
• Mentor junior engineers. In senior roles you’ll lead design packages and teams.

What you’ll bring

• A degree in electrical engineering (essential). CPEng, RPEQ or NER registration is highly regarded.
• Experience designing MV/LV power systems for large buildings, critical facilities, substations or infrastructure.
• Exposure to power system studies and protection design. We’ll back you to take full ownership of them.
• Data centre or mission critical project experience is a strong advantage but not essential if your power design background is solid.
• Confidence working with clients, and a collaborative approach in multidisciplinary teams.
