With an exceptional reputation for technical rigor and complex power system modelling, their team provides end-to-end advisory across wind, solar, and battery storage (BESS) projects from initial network feasibility right through to final commissioning.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Power Systems Engineer to join a high-performing technical consultancy based in New South Wales. In this role, you will lead complex grid connection studies, power system modelling, and technical advisory services for major renewable energy projects (including wind, solar, and Battery Energy Storage Systems) across the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Working closely with key developers, Network Service Providers (NSPs), and AEMO, you will play a central role in guiding projects through the connection lifecycle from early-stage planning through to commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Power Systems Modelling and Analysis: Perform steady-state and dynamic power system studies using PSCAD/EMTDC, PSS/E, and PowerFactory.
• Grid Connection Approvals: Lead generator connection applications under the National Electricity Rules (NER Clause 5.3.4A processes), including GPS compliance and negotiation.
• Technical Advisory and Strategy: Provide strategic technical advice to clients on grid integration, system strength, harmonic performance, and connection risk mitigation.
• Project and Team Leadership: Lead project deliverables, manage project budgets and timelines, and mentor junior and mid-level power systems engineers within the team.
• Stakeholder Management: Manage technical interfaces with AEMO, NSPs (Transgrid, Endeavour Energy, Ausgrid, etc.), project developers, and equipment OEMs.

Key Requirements

• Education: Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical / Power Systems) or equivalent. CPEng / NER registration (or progress towards) is highly regarded.
• Experience: 5+ years of dedicated power systems engineering experience, ideally within an Australian engineering consultancy or network operator.
• Software Capability: Advanced proficiency in PSCAD and PSS/E is essential. Familiarity with PowerFactory or DigSILENT is advantageous.
• NEM Market Knowledge: Deep understanding of the National Electricity Rules (NER), AEMO generator connection processes, and Australian grid codes.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven track record of writing technical reports and presenting to external clients.
