Job summary

Water Corporation in Leederville seeks a Senior Legal Counsel – Contracts Lawyer to develop and advise on contracts, chiefly for construction and technology. You will report to the Manager - Commercial Support and help steer strategic contract management across the business.

The role requires WA-registered legal practitioner status with extensive drafting, negotiation and advisory experience in goods, works, services, and software contracts, including AS 4000 references.

Qualifications

• Legal Practitioner admitted to practice in Western Australia.
• Extensive experience in drafting, development, negotiation and management of contracts for goods, works and services, technology contracts (software licences).
• Detailed knowledge of contract and commercial law and proficient in contract management.
• Sound working knowledge of procurement policies and procedures employed by large corporations and business computer systems used to support the procurement function.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the statutes and legal principles material to commercial activities of the State and its instrumentalities.

Responsibilities

• Provides strategic direction and advice on the use and operation of relationship contracts wherever they may be required throughout the business.
• Provide legal advice and opinions on contractual issues that arise either in the planning, creation, negotiation or delivery of the agreement.
• Resolves commercial and contractual issues arising during the assessment and evaluation process.
• Prepares recommendations for acceptance of quotations and tenders, or works with others to prepare such recommendations as the circumstances may require, and obtains approval of recommendations.
• Develops negotiation strategies for contracts and leads the negotiations.
• Advise on contractual disputes or claims that arise, including attending negotiations and drafting the required settlement deed.
• Provide legal advice on regulatory issues, land assembly or other project related issues that may arise in the carrying out of a project.
