Sydney Water is seeking a committed Legal Counsel - Major Projects to join the Legal and Compliance team. You will advise on construction and commercial matters, support internal stakeholders, and help manage legal risks across major projects.

The role emphasizes contract drafting, review and negotiation, with opportunities to develop expertise within a fast-paced environment. Hybrid work and strong benefits are available.

Qualifications

• 3-8 years post-admission experience, ideally in private practice and in-house.
• Strong ability in contract drafting, review, negotiations and giving high-quality legal advice.
• Proven ability to identify and assess commercial and legal risks.
• Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills with sound commercial judgement.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Tertiary qualification in law.
• NSW practising certificate.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely and high-quality legal advice across areas of law relevant to Sydney Water, focusing on construction law.
• Draft, review, negotiate and advise on construction and commercial agreements to protect Sydney Water’s interests.
• Advise on rights and obligations under relevant legislation.
• Support commercial and operational teams with day-to-day legal enquiries.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders for effective legal service delivery.
• Contribute to knowledge management by capturing and sharing legal insights.
