Job summary

City of Melbourne is seeking a Senior Advisor, Corporate Communications to shape how the city communicates with its community. You will develop compelling content across flagship publications, speeches and digital platforms, aligning messages with Council priorities.

Working with senior leaders, you’ll translate complex information into clear, engaging messages for diverse audiences and provide strategic communications advice under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in researching, writing and editing high-quality communications materials, including speeches, publications and digital content.
• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise and engaging content tailored to different audiences.
• Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build strong relationships, influence others and provide sound advice to senior leaders.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities, work collaboratively across teams and deliver high-quality communications within tight deadlines.
• A tertiary qualification in Journalism, Communications or Policy, supported by substantial relevant experience in a similar role.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver high-quality, engaging content across a range of public-facing channels, including Melbourne News, Melbourne Magazine, corporate eDMs and digital platforms.
• Research, draft and refine speeches, key messages and written communications for the Lord Mayor, councillors and CEO.
• Work collaboratively with stakeholders and communications teams to identify compelling stories, develop creative content and ensure messaging aligns with Council priorities.
• Provide strategic communications advice, manage competing priorities and deliver accurate, impactful content within agreed timelines.
