Senior Communications Advisor (AO6) | Nerang, Gold Coast
About the role
- 6-month contract, 2 November 2026 to 30 April 2027, with possible extension

- Around $79 to $84 per hour plus super
South Coast Region is one of the fastest-growing regions in Queensland. It covers more than 1,000 km of national highway and state-controlled road network across the Gold Coast, Logan and Scenic Rim. The region is delivering a major infrastructure program and needs a senior communications and engagement specialist to lead the external-facing work that goes with it.
You’ll lead a small Communications and Engagement team and act as the key adviser to Project Directors, the Regional Director and the communications leadership team. This is a hands‑on role with a direct line to the communities affected by major road projects.
What you’ll do
- Lead community engagement, community relations and correspondence for major road projects across the region
- Lead and coach a small team producing clear, consistent, high-quality collateral and information
- Work with project managers to identify communication issues early and put proactive issues management in place
- Provide media, engagement and strategic advice to senior leaders
- Build strong relationships with community groups, businesses, industry and local, state and federal government agencies
- Represent the department in public forums and community meetings
What you’ll bring
- Senior experience in community engagement, stakeholder management and strategic communications
- Strong issues management skills and confidence handling difficult stakeholders and critical conversations
- Experience in major infrastructure environments (highly regarded)
- Experience leading and developing a team
- Media relations and social media skills
- A degree in communications, public relations or marketing, or equivalent experience
- IAP2 or equivalent engagement training (desirable)
- Knowledge of the infrastructure planning lifecycle (desirable)
Mandatory requirements
- A current Class C driver's licence and your own vehicle to travel to sites, offices and meetings (travel costs are not covered)
- Willingness to undergo employment screening, including a criminal history check
- A White Card, or the ability to get one within six months of starting
