Job summary

TheDriveGroup is seeking a Senior Cloud Security Engineer to join an established cyber security team in Sydney. The role combines hands-on security engineering with cyber uplift, spanning SIEM/XDR, cloud security, incident response, and automation to scale security processes.

You will apply Python tooling, detection-as-code, and DevOps practices while exploring practical AI applications across security operations and engineering.

Qualifications

• Strong experience across Security Engineering, Detection Engineering or senior Security Operations
• Hands-on experience with SIEM and XDR technologies
• Strong understanding of detection engineering, security monitoring and incident response
• Python scripting and automation experience
• Experience securing AWS and/or Azure environments
• Understanding of CI/CD, Git and modern DevOps/DevSecOps practices
• Experience with threat hunting, MITRE ATT&CK and attacker behaviours
• An engineering mindset with the ability to identify problems and build scalable solutions
• Exposure to AI within cyber security or automation would be advantageous

Responsibilities

• Engineer and continuously improve SIEM, XDR and security monitoring capabilities
• Build, test and tune high-quality security detections
• Support complex incident response, investigations and threat hunting
• Improve security visibility and telemetry across AWS and Azure
• Develop Python tooling and automation to eliminate repetitive security processes
• Apply detection-as-code, Git, CI/CD and DevOps practices to security engineering
• Work across vulnerability management, remediation and wider security uplift initiatives
• Identify opportunities to use AI and automation to improve security operations
• Partner with cloud, infrastructure and engineering teams to improve security controls and visibility
• Help mature security processes rather than simply maintaining existing tooling
