Job summary

Melton City Council is seeking a Catering Lead to deliver Council’s catering service across multiple sites, ensuring high quality customer service and adherence to the Food Safety Program. You will lead a catering team, manage stock, rosters and safety compliance, while upholding strong service standards.

The role requires trade cookery qualifications or equivalent experience, knowledge of food safety, and the ability to work across sites with a focus on quality and efficiency.

• Ensure day-to-day catering operations run smoothly, including food prep, presentation and storage.
• Plan, order and distribute stock across catering sites to meet daily needs.
• Maintain safe working conditions per Occupational Health and Safety systems and Food Safety Program.
• Support and train catering staff in food prep, service and customer care.
• Assist in staff rosters and supervise the team to achieve clear outcomes.
• Oversee stock control and purchasing procedures, including regular stock takes.
• Develop work instructions and procedures to improve operational efficiency.

The Opportunity

The Catering Service fits within the Recreation, Facility Activation Business Unit reporting to the Coordinator Leisure Centres. There are several catering sites between Caroline Springs and the Melton Township.

The objective of the role is to lead the delivery of Council’s catering service, support the catering team to provide a high level of customer service and to ensure Council’s catering service meets the requirements of the Food Safety Program.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible to ensure the day-to-day catering operations are maintained, including work efficiencies, food preparation, presentation and storage.
• Plan, order and distribute stock across the catering sites, to ensure quality and quantities of stock items are available for the daily operations.
• To ensure working conditions and practices are in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety systems and Food Safety Program.
• To support and instruct the catering staff in food preparation and sales and model the provision of high-quality customer service.
• Assist and support the coordinator in preparing and distributing staff rosters and supervising the performance of the team to achieve greed and clear outcomes.
• Ensure stock control and purchasing procedures are implemented, including regular stock takes and audits of catering sites.
• Develop work instructions and procedures that improve the operational efficiency of the service

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

• Trade cookery qualifications and/or relevant experience in front and back of house catering operations, with knowledge of the Food Safety Program.
• Experience in Point of Sales systems and Microsoft programs.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a number of tasks and organise work within specific guidelines.
• Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
