Job summary

  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into functional docs and technical specs.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to lead HR data processes and legacy system cleanup as part of an upcoming system conversion.

In this role, you will work closely with the Program Manager and data stakeholders to gain an in-depth understanding of business strategy, processes, services, and roadmaps, while documenting the capabilities required to address key business challenges.

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Proven experience in HR data migration, legacy system decommissioning, and data cleansing operations
  • Demonstrated expertise in mapping HR processes, workflows, and data structures from end to end
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to align technical data teams with HR business objectives
  • A track record of translating complex business requirements into clear functional documentation and technical specifications
  • Support leadership in optimising the way in which the Integration sub domain work, including documentation of business requirements, Mapping of data integration and services, practices, organisation, and resourcing to promote team dynamics and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and finalise effective communications with key stakeholders, both internal and external and provide influential input with stakeholders to achieve business outcomes.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, advice and business analysis quality assurance to the team assigned to the project which the Business Analyst has a role.
  • Identify and evaluate business requirements for one or more systems or process areas. Investigate, analyse and document business processes and the underlying business model for a system or process area.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, Architects and Business SMEs to implement the requirements, provide necessary guidance to testers during QA process. Build and execute product functional test plans prior to release to end-users.
  • Develop operational and user guides and develop and deliver end-user training.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualification combined with subsequent HR systems experience, or equivalent competence gained through education, training, and professional background.
  • At least 5 years of functional experience as a business analyst, functional consultant, or systems specialist focusing on HR data migrations, system implementations, and legacy data cleanup in a large, complex organisation—ideally within higher education.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience across a range of application development methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, Lean, and Rapid Application Development.
  • Proven experience in business case preparation, workload estimation, and project costing tailored to large-scale data and systems transformations.
  • High-level competency in professional business analysis techniques and methods, such as Use Case Analysis and UML, specifically applied to HR data workflows and integration processes.
  • Well-developed proficiency in standard office applications, diagramming tools like Visio, and collaboration platforms such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Sound consultation, influencing, and negotiation skills to engage effectively with diverse HR and technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment during data cleanup and migration.
  • Comprehensive analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate complex legacy HR datasets, exercise initiative, and develop robust data quality solutions.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for process maps, functional specifications, and migration documentation.
