Job summary

Medibank Private Limited in Melbourne is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join the ahm Core & Enabling Applications team and drive quality across Core WHICS and NewHealth platforms. You’ll design and maintain automated testing frameworks and support CI/CD delivery.

You’ll mentor peers, champion shift-left testing, and apply AI-driven testing capabilities to improve automation coverage and customer outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software testing/automation experience.
• Hands-on with Playwright and Node.js automation frameworks.
• REST APIs and API testing tools such as Postman and SOAPUI.
• Solid knowledge of testing methodologies, levels, types and advanced techniques.
• Experience in Agile environments and with Jira/X-Ray and GitHub.
• Experience with GitHub Actions and Jenkins for CI/CD.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and mentoring abilities.
• Experience with cloud-native applications is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Foster collaboration between engineering and QA, promoting knowledge-sharing.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and AI-driven testing capabilities.

We’re looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join our ahm Core & Enabling Applications team and play a key role in driving quality, automation and continuous improvement across our Core WHICS and NewHealth platforms.

As a senior member of the QA function, you’ll use modern test automation practices to support CI/CD delivery, improve quality outcomes, and help teams build quality into every stage of the software development lifecycle. Working in a fast-paced environment, you’ll collaborate closely with product, engineering and delivery teams to develop automation frameworks, drive defect prevention, and champion a culture of quality ownership.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced automation specialist who enjoys mentoring others, influencing testing practices, and leveraging new tools and technologies to improve team effectiveness and customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build and maintain automated testing frameworks and test scripts.
• Develop processes to identify test conditions and translate them into comprehensive test cases.
• Support and enhance CI/CD practices by embedding automation into delivery pipelines.
• Collaborate with Test Lead and delivery teams to define test coverage, testing approaches and estimates.
• Execute and support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, regression testing and defect retesting activities.
• Identify, document and communicate testing risks, issues and quality concerns.
• Champion test automation best practices and mentor team members to uplift automation capability across the team.
• Drive shift-left testing practices and support continuous improvement of quality metrics, reporting and automation coverage.
• Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose and deliver high-quality customer outcomes.
• Foster collaboration between engineering and QA teams, promoting knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement across the SDLC.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies, tools and AI-driven testing capabilities to continuously improve testing effectiveness.

Must haves:

• 8+ years' experience in software testing, automation testing, API testing or core platform application testing.
• Strong hands‑on experience building and maintaining Playwright and Node.js-based automation frameworks.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, API-driven applications and API testing tools such as Postman and SOAPUI.
• Strong knowledge of testing methodologies, test levels, test types and advanced testing techniques.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
• Experience with test management and delivery tools, including Jira/X‑Ray and GitHub.
• Experience with source control and CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence quality outcomes across cross‑functional teams.
• Proven experience mentoring team members and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience with cloud‑native applications will be highly regarded.
