Job summary

Medibank is seeking a Senior Application Engineer to join the Data & Technology Applications team, focusing on maintenance, reliability and scalability of ahm and OSHC applications. You will collaborate with stakeholders, vendors and cross-functional tech teams to drive operational excellence and automation.

The role requires strong Linux admin skills, SQL with JSON/XML, scripting, API experience and hands-on CI/CD (GitHub/Jenkins) in AWS, with a focus on incident resolution, deployment

Qualifications

• Extensive experience supporting and maintaining enterprise applications in complex IT environments.
• Strong Linux administration experience (SUSE or similar Unix-based OS).
• Strong SQL skills with JSON/XML data handling.
• Scripting in Python/Perl for automation.
• Experience with SOAP/REST APIs and Kafka.
• Experience with AWS Cloud environments.
• Hands-on with CI/CD platforms like GitHub, Jenkins and modern DevSecOps.
• Strong release, environment and deployment management experience.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience implementing automation and batch scheduling; Agile delivery teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead application optimisation and process improvement initiatives to enhance performance and reduce incidents.
• Provide expert support for complex incidents and production issues, driving root cause analysis and long-term solutions.
• Manage deployments, patching activities and environment health across prod and non-prod environments.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, monitoring capabilities, support processes and disaster recovery plans.
• Partner with development teams, stakeholders and vendors to ensure reliable, secure and scalable services.
• Support and mentor team members through coaching, knowledge sharing and technical leadership.
• Drive automation, DevSecOps and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, stability and service delivery.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Senior Application Engineer to join our Data & Technology Applications team and play a critical role in supporting and evolving the ahm and OSHC application landscape.

In this role, you'll be responsible for the technical and functional maintenance of critical business applications, ensuring they remain reliable, secure, scalable and highly available. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders, vendors and cross-functional technology teams to drive operational excellence, support business-critical systems, and identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvement.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced application support and operations professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, leading improvement initiatives, mentoring others, and influencing the future direction of application operations and platform stability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead application optimisation and process improvement initiatives to enhance performance, reduce incidents and improve operational outcomes.

Must haves:

• Strong SQL skills and experience working with JSON and XML data formats.
• Experience with Python, Perl or similar scripting languages for automation and operational support.
• Strong knowledge of SOAP and REST APIs and event-driven technologies such as Kafka.
• Experience working with AWS Cloud environments.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms such as GitHub, Jenkins and modern DevSecOps practices.
• Strong release, environment and deployment management experience.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience implementing automation and batch scheduling solutions.Experience working within Agile, cross-functional delivery teams.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while driving continuous improvement outcomes.
