Job summary

Good Counsel College in Innisfail is seeking a School Officer - Science Laboratory Assistant to support the delivery of Science. The role focuses on preparation, organisation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and providing learning support to students during practical activities.

A Certificate III in Education Support (or higher) is desirable, with experience in a laboratory environment. Strong organisational and communication skills, plus the ability to engage positively with students,

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Education Support or higher (desirable).
• Experience working in a laboratory or similar environment.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to engage positively with students in classroom and practical learning environments.
• Working with Children Blue Card required.
• Supportive of Catholic Education ethos.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical assistance and guidance to students during practical lessons under teacher direction.
• Assist with evaluating and addressing learning needs under teacher direction.
• Assist in science program activities, including experiment design and demonstrations.
• Prepare, set up, and dismantle laboratory equipment; dispose of waste materials safely.
• Handle stock solutions, chemicals and hazardous materials following procedures.
• Contribute to stock take and ordering of science resources; maintain equipment database.
• Collaborate with teachers to manage equipment return and storage.
• Enforce safety protocols and maintain lab housekeeping.
