Job summary

Good Counsel College in Innisfail seeks a School Officer (Science Laboratory Assistant) to support science delivery through preparation, organisation and maintenance of laboratory equipment. The role includes practical support for students during lessons and ensuring safe, well‑run experiments.

Qualifications

• Experience in a laboratory or similar environment is desirable.
• Strong organisational and communication skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to engage positively with students in classroom and practical learning.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical assistance to students during lessons under teacher direction.
• Assist in evaluating and supporting learning needs of students under supervision.
• Support science program activities, including experiment design and demonstration.
• Prepare, set up, and dismantle equipment for experiments; dispose of waste materials properly.
• Handle stock solutions, chemicals and hazardous materials following procedures.
• Contribute to stock takes and ordering of science resources; maintain equipment database.
• Collaborate with teachers to manage equipment return and storage; enforce safety protocols.
