Job summary

Good Counsel College in Innisfail invites applications for a School Officer - Science Laboratory Assistant. The role supports Science delivery by preparing, organising and maintaining laboratory equipment and materials, and by assisting students during practical activities.

This permanent term-time position (32h 55m per week) offers $34.17–$35.62 gross per hour plus 12.75% super. A Certificate III in Education Support is desirable and a Working with Children Blue Card is required; closing date

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Education Support is desirable.
• Experience in a laboratory or similar environment is preferred.
• Strong organisational and communication skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical assistance and guidance to students during practical lessons under teacher direction.
• Assist with evaluating student learning needs under teacher direction.
• Help in science program activities including experiment design and demonstration.
• Prepare, set up, and dismantle laboratory equipment; dispose of waste materials properly.
• Handle stock solutions, chemicals and hazardous materials following procedures.
• Contribute to stock take and maintenance of equipment database.
• Collaborate with teachers to manage equipment return and storage.
• Enforce safety protocols and maintain laboratory housekeeping.
