Job summary

Queensland Department of Education – Southport QLD is seeking an experienced Science Technician to support the school science department. This role focuses on creating safe, well-organised and engaging practical learning environments for teachers and students.

This temporary vacancy is a 0.60FTE part-time position (43.2 hours per fortnight). The successful applicant will contribute to equipment setup, stock management and lab procedures while ensuring safety and accuracy in all tasks.

Qualifications

• This position requires experience as a science or laboratory professional.
• Ability to create safe, well-organised and engaging practical learning environments.
• Strong organisational and technical skills to support teachers and students.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up equipment, materials, samples and demonstrations for practical classes.
• S afely manage chemicals, hazardous substances, waste and laboratory procedures.
• Maintain laboratories, equipment, resources and stock to a safe and high standard.
• Support teachers and students with practical activities, experiments, field trips and STEM initiatives.
• Maintain accurate inventories, registers, records, SDSs and compliance documentation.
• Manage stock orders, deliveries, quotes, suppliers and basic budget administration.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance, calibration and minor repairs.
• Develop and maintain laboratory procedures and protocols.
• Prioritise tasks effectively and provide practical technical advice to teaching staff.
• Liaise with suppliers, industry, schools and laboratory staff as required.
