Job summary

Catholic Education Cairns is hiring a School Counsellor to support students’ mental health and resilience at MacKillop Catholic College, Mt Peter. The role combines direct counselling with systemic interventions in a Catholic education setting.

The successful applicant will hold a relevant degree (Education Psychology or Social Work) and meet registration/blue-card requirements, with a commitment to the Church’s ethos and student wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Formal qualifications at Degree level are required in Education Psychology or Social Work.
• Registration with Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) or eligibility if teaching-qualified.
• Working with Children Blue Card is required for non-teacher applicants.
• Must be fully supportive of the ethos of Catholic Education.
• Guidance Counsellors (Teacher) require QCT registration and QGCA membership or AHPRA/ACSW membership.
• Guidance Counsellors (Non-Teacher) require APHRA registration or AASW membership.

Responsibilities

• Foster development, mental health and resilience of all students, including at-risk and with special needs.
• Apply guidance and counselling skills through direct/indirect processes and interventions.
• Collaborate with the school to contribute specialised knowledge and skills to equitable educational access and outcomes.
