Job summary

The School Counsellor at Catholic Education in the Diocese of Cairns – Smithfield, QLD, provides support for students’ development, mental health and resilience. This role applies guidance and counselling skills directly and indirectly, with interventions to promote equitable access and outcomes for all learners.

Qualifications

• Registered or eligible to be registered with Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).
• Working with Children Blue Card.
• Formal qualifications at degree level in Education Psychology or Social Work and relevant post-graduate experience.
• Guidance Counsellors: QCT registration and full membership of QGCA or AHPRA/ AASW membership.

Responsibilities

• Foster development, mental health and resilience of all students, including at-risk and with special needs.
• Apply guidance and counselling skills through direct/indirect processes and systemic/individual interventions.
• Collaborate with school staff to promote equitable educational access, participation and outcomes.
