Job summary

Cengage Education is seeking a Sales Executive to cover Victoria’s western and northern suburbs, driving adoption of Nelson products in Victorian secondary schools. You’ll manage the full sales cycle, from prospecting to close, and nurture strong relationships with school leaders.

The role is Melbourne-based with work-from-home arrangements and some interstate travel. You’ll report to the Head of K–12 Schools and contribute to a high-performance education sales team.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in sales, business development or account management.
• Track record of developing opportunities and closing sales.
• Excellent relationship-building, communication and presentation skills.
• Consultative approach to understanding customer needs and recommending solutions.
• Proactive, resilient and creative approach to prospecting and selling.
• Strong organisation and the ability to independently manage a busy territory.
• Confidence using CRM systems and managing sales pipeline.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute territory plans to achieve sales targets and KPIs.
• Identify and develop new business through proactive prospecting, research, networking and outbound activity.
• Build strong relationships with teachers, school leaders and key decision-makers.
• Manage the sales cycle from qualification through to presentation, negotiation and close.
• Maintain and grow existing customers while identifying opportunities to expand product adoption.
• Conduct customer meetings, presentations and product demonstrations.
• Maintain an active pipeline, accurate forecasts and CRM records.
• Develop strong knowledge of Nelson's print and digital products.
• Collaborate with Sales, Marketing and other colleagues to deliver an excellent customer experience.

Summary:

We’re looking for a driven sales professional to join our team as a Sales Executive, responsible for a territory across Victoria’s western and northern suburbs.

You’ll grow adoption of Nelson products across Victorian Secondary schools by building strong customer relationships, identifying new opportunities and managing the sales process from prospecting through to negotiation and close.

The role reports to the Head of K–12 Schools and is based in Melbourne, with working-from-home arrangements in place. Some country and interstate travel is required.

Preferred experience:

Experience in education, educational publishing, EdTech or selling digital/solution-based products would be advantageous, as would experience working with schools or education decision-makers.

However, sector experience isn’t essential if you can demonstrate strong transferable sales skills, a willingness to learn and the ability to develop new business.
