Job summary

Spirit of Tasmania is seeking a Safety and Environment Manager to lead safety and environmental risk management across Devonport or Geelong. You will develop the Safety and Environment Strategy, ensure legislative compliance and drive continuous improvement while engaging with leadership and external partners.

This role requires a tertiary qualification and a proven record in cultural change within heavy industry.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Safety and Environment Manager is responsible for managing Spirit of Tasmania’s safety and environmental risk and for raising safety and environment performance levels. Your responsibilities will include developing the Safety and Environment Strategy, ensuring legislative compliance; identifying opportunities for continuous improvement; providing specialist advice to the leadership and management teams; liaising with external entities; and implementing safety and environmental initiatives that encourage stakeholder engagement and compliance.

To be successful, you will need outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including leadership teams, managers, unions, government entities and employees. You will need to be tertiary qualified and have a demonstrated track record in delivering cultural change. Your high-level strategic, influencing and problem-solving abilities together with your extensive experience delivering safety awareness in a heavy industry, maritime, mining or construction environments will ensure your success.

With the upcoming arrival of two new purpose-built ships, a new terminal facility for Devonport under construction to accompany a newly opened terminal in Geelong, this is an exciting time to join the iconic Spirit of Tasmania. This role can be located in either Devonport or Geelong.
