Job description

Spirit of Tasmania is recognised as a key contributor to the Australian tourism industry and for supporting Australia's economic development.

Spirit of Tasmania is recognised as a key contributor to the Australian tourism industry and for supporting Australia’s economic development through the delivery of a world-class ferry service to passengers and freight. As the company enters a period of significant financial and operational transformation - including investment in new-generation vessels, a new terminal facility in Devonport, and a renewed focus on long-term sustainability - this is an exciting time to join the Spirit of Tasmania and contribute to its future success. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operating Officer is responsible for leading Spirit of Tasmania's operations across ferry services, including marine, terminal and passenger onboard operations. Based in Northwest/Northern Tasmania, the role provides strategic and operational leadership across a complex, safety-critical, customer-focused and highly regulated 24/7 operating environment across Devonport and Geelong. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Operating Officer serves as a trusted partner to the Chief Executive Officer, with responsibility for driving safe, reliable and efficient operations and providing leadership across diverse operational functions. The successful candidate will be an experienced executive leader with a track record of leading complex operations and large workforces in highly regulated environments, complemented by strong commercial and financial acumen. You will bring strong people leadership capability, experience leading organisational change and major projects, and the ability to build trusted relationships across a broad range of stakeholders, including regulators, unions, contractors, government and industry partners. Equally important will be your capacity to unite diverse teams, develop organisational capability and balance customer, commercial and operational priorities. This is an outstanding opportunity to join one of Tasmania's most recognised organisations at a pivotal point in its evolution. You will play a key role in shaping the next chapter of Spirit of Tasmania's operations, supporting the successful integration of its new-generation vessels and contributing to the long‑term success of an organisation that is critical to Tasmania's economy, connectivity and visitor industry.
