Job summary

Quilpie Shire Council is seeking a motivated Multi-Skilled Plant Operator to help build and maintain roads in the Quilpie region. You will report to the Road Construction and Maintenance Supervisor and may start as a Trainee Roller Operator or a permanent Roller Operator, with opportunities to advance within a dedicated team.

Available permanent Full Time position, with options for short-term contracts. The role emphasises safety, integrity, and teamwork in a rural community setting, offering

Qualifications

  • Current C class drivers licence.
  • Current General Construction Induction Card or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to operate plant in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Operate roller machinery safely and efficiently, or undertake training to develop competency in plant operation.
  • Ensure plant operation is consistent with manufacturer specifications and Council procedures.
  • Conduct routine inspections and assist with basic plant maintenance and servicing.
  • Undertake general labouring duties associated with road construction and maintenance activities.
  • Accurately record daily work activities and plant usage.
  • Follow safe work practices and contribute to a positive team environment.

Your opportunity

In addition to the available permanent Full Time position, Council will also review applicants that are interested in short term (minimum 3 months) contracts or longer term contracts if the permanent role does not suit candidates.

As a Roller Operator / Trainee Roller Operator at Quilpie Shire Council, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining the roads that connect our vibrant community.

Reporting to the Road Construction and Maintenance Supervisor, you will contribute to the safe and efficient operation of plant and equipment on vital construction and maintenance projects across our region. Whether you are an experienced operator or looking to start your career in civil construction, this role offers the opportunity to develop your skills while working as part of a dedicated team.

To thrive in this role, you will have:

  • Current "C" class drivers licence
  • Current General Construction Induction Card or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to operate plant in a safe and efficient manner

Although it’s not essential, it would be great if you had:

  • Certificates of Competency for Backhoe, Roller and/or Loader
  • Competency in Traffic Management Implementation
  • Other certificates of competency related to Road Construction and Maintenance operations
