Job summary

Walgett Shire Council is seeking a Roads Engineer to plan and deliver improvements across the Shire’s road network. You will be involved from investigation through to handover, coordinating with Council crews, contractors and Transport for NSW to deliver safe, value-for-money outcomes.

You bring a Civil Engineering qualification and practical experience in road, pavement or drainage projects, with strong planning, communication and document management skills.

Qualifications

• Qualifications include a tertiary degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline relevant to road and civil infrastructure.
• Experience investigating, designing, coordinating or delivering road, pavement, drainage or civil works.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, estimates and project documentation.
• Knowledge of road construction and maintenance, QA, WHS, traffic management and environmental controls.
• Strong coordination, contract administration, record keeping and financial monitoring skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical matters to different audiences.
• Ability to prioritise, work independently in the field and raise risks promptly.
• Current Class C driver licence and Construction Induction Card.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver improvements across the Shire’s road network.
• Involve throughout lifecycle from investigation to handover.
• Undertake road maintenance, capital projects and flood damage restoration.
• Collaborate with Council crews, contractors, consultants and Transport for NSW.
• Provide engineering advice on roads, pavements, drainage, construction methods, safety and value for money.
• Prepare project scopes and estimates, monitor construction and keep projects on track.
• Assist with funding applications, claims and reporting for funded works.
• Support coordination with RMCC, Local and Regional Roads, and Capital Works Coordinators.
