Job summary

Walgett Shire Council is seeking a Roads Engineer to plan and deliver improvements across the Shire’s road network. You will balance fieldwork with project planning, from investigation to handover, and ensure safety, quality and value for money in every project.

You will engage with Council crews, consultants and Transport for NSW, manage priorities, develop scopes and estimates, and contribute to funding applications and reporting for funded works.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or related discipline for road and civil infrastructure.
• Experience investigating, designing, coordinating or delivering road, pavement, drainage or civil infrastructure works.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, construction contracts, estimates and project documentation.
• Working knowledge of road construction and maintenance, quality assurance, work health and safety, traffic management and environmental controls.
• Strong project coordination, contract administration, record keeping and financial monitoring skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical matters to different audiences.
• Ability to organise competing priorities, work independently in the field and raise risks promptly.
• A current Class C driver licence and Construction Induction Card.

Responsibilities

• Take road projects from investigation and planning through to construction and completion.
• Help improve the roads that connect Walgett Shire’s communities, farms and essential services.
• Involve in road maintenance, capital projects and flood damage restoration.
• Coordinate with Council crews, contractors, consultants and Transport for NSW on roads, pavements, drainage, construction methods, safety and value for money.
• Assist in funding applications, claims and reporting for funded works.
• Support coordinated delivery across Council’s road programs with RMCC and Local/Regional Roads teams.
