Job summary

Federation Council is seeking a practical Risk & Safety Officer based in Corowa, with the potential to work across the Federation Council area. The role is full-time (70 hours per fortnight) with a rostered day off, offering on-site support and training.

You will protect staff and volunteers, perform field safety inspections, advise on safety practices, and ensure safe processes are easy to follow across all sites. Salary starts at hourly rates and progresses with experience.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in WHS or Risk Management required or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Experience running site checks, entering safety data and following safety laws.
• Strong communication skills to engage outdoor crews, office teams and volunteers.
• Must hold a Class C drivers licence and have a White Card.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular safety inspections across depots, offices and parks.
• Support volunteers and event organisers with safety guidance.
• Review incidents and lead investigations when required.
• Deliver simple safety talks and training sessions.
• Maintain safety registers and manage insurance claims.

You will work closely with our Manager People & Culture and your colleagues in the team to keep oursafetysystems strong and make suresafetyprocesses are easy to understand across all our sites.

A Day in the Life:

No two days are the same in this role! Here is a look at what your week might involve:

• Morning in the Field: You grab a Council vehicle and head out to a depot or community centre to run a quick workplacesafetyinspection. You chat with field crews, check equipment, and help them address a trip hazard on the spot
• Midday Team Support: You meet with a local volunteer group at a Council facility. You give them simple, practical advice on how to run their upcoming community event safely
• Afternoon in the Office: You log a quicksafetyreport into our online system (DoneSafe), meet with the People & Culture team, and then review insurance details for Council vehicles

Key Responsibilities:

• Workplace Inspections: Run regularsafetywalk-throughs across Council depots, offices, and parks to identify hazards early
• Volunteer Support: Help community volunteers and event organisers understand basicsafetyrules and liability guidelines
• Incident Care: Review incident reports and lead investigations when things go wrong
• SafetyTraining: Help deliver simplesafetytalks and training sessions to Council teams
• System Management: Keep oursafetyregisters and insurance claims organised and up to date

What We Are Looking For:

• A Certificate IV in WHS orRiskManagement (or equal hands-on experience)
• Background in running site checks, enteringsafetydata, and followingsafetylaws
• Clear communication skills and the ability to build trust with outdoor crews, office teams, and local volunteers
• Current valid Class C Drivers Licence and a White Card (or ability to get one)

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $43.89 per hour with progression up to $48.45 per hour dependent upon skills and experience.
