Meander Valley Council is seeking an experienced Work Health and Safety Officer to join its People & Safety Team and provide practical, reliable and effective WHS advice and support across Council operations.
Based in beautiful Westbury, an easy drive at 25 minutes from Launceston, Meander Valley Council services a broad and diverse local government area across northern Tasmania, including rural land, small towns, villages and growing urban settlements. This creates a varied and interesting WHS environment, across office-based teams, outdoor crews, roads, parks, facilities, waste, contractors, volunteers and community-facing services.
Reporting to the Team Leader People & Safety, this role will develop, maintain and strengthen Council's safety systems and embed a positive safety culture. This is a hands‑on WHS role for someone who enjoys being out and about, building relationships and turning WHS into practical solutions that work for our people and operations.
The ideal candidate will bring hands‑on WHS experience from an operational, field‑based, multi‑site or compliance‑focused environment. Local government experience would be highly regarded, although candidates from civil construction, infrastructure, utilities, manufacturing, logistics, facilities, community services, transport or other safety‑critical sectors are also encouraged to apply.
