Job summary

Glenelg Shire Council is seeking an OHS & Risk Officer to join our team and help create a safe, healthy and proactive workplace across the Council. This is a hands-on role focused on enhancing safety performance and supporting staff.

You will lead OHS audits and inspections, manage hazard identification, incident investigations, risk assessments, and maintain OHS registers, policies and procedures, while collaborating with managers to embed a positive safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Experience in OHS inspections and audits.
  • Ability to identify and manage workplace risks.
  • Strong administrative and IT skills.

About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an OHS & Risk Officer to join our team and help create a safe, healthy and proactive workplace across Glenelg Shire Council.

This is a hands-on role facilitating Council’s OHS audit and inspection program, assisting with a variety of work including OHS inspections and audits, hazard identification, incident investigations, risk management, OHS registers, policies and procedures, staff inductions and WorkCover obligations. You will work alongside managers and staff to identify and manage risks, improve workplace safety and support a positive safety culture.

In this role you will provide practical advice and support across Council, helping our teams understand their OHS responsibilities and actively participate in safety and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you need to Succeed

To succeed in this position, you need to be organised, proactive and confident working with people and be able to work independently, manage competing priorities, communicate clearly with staff and managers, and use initiative to identify and resolve OHS issues. You need good attention to detail, sound administration and IT skills, discretion when dealing with sensitive information, and a willingness to learn and apply OHS, risk and Council processes.

To succeed in this position, you will need:
