Job summary

St Spyridon Parish in South‑East Sydney seeks an experienced Risk and Compliance Manager to strengthen enterprise risk management, governance, assurance, WHS and safeguarding across its education, parish and community programs.

Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Head of College and Shared Services, you will assess existing arrangements, identify gaps and implement proportionate, practical improvements.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years of relevant risk and compliance experience.
• Professional qualification in risk/compliance or equivalent.
• Experience in safeguarding and child-protection regulatory obligations.
• Knowledge of enterprise risk management, audits and governance frameworks.

Risk and Compliance Manager, St Spyridon Parish

For more than 60 years, St Spyridon Parish has served the spiritual, educational and community needs of South-East Sydney. At the heart of its work is St Spyridon College, a co-educational K-12 Greek Orthodox school committed to academic growth, character and service. As the Parish’s largest ministry, the College sits alongside a range of other ministries, cultural activities and community programs that support and enrich the lives of people of all ages.

The Parish seeks an experienced Risk and Compliance Manager to strengthen organisation-wide risk management, governance, assurance, work health and safety and safeguarding. Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Head of College and Shared Services colleagues, the appointee will support a diverse range of educational, Parish and community activities.

A key priority will be to assess existing arrangements, identify gaps and implement proportionate, practical improvements. The portfolio includes enterprise risk frameworks and registers, policy and regulatory compliance, CompliSpace, audits, incident management, emergency preparedness, business continuity and reporting to senior leaders and the Board.

The successful candidate will bring sound professional judgement, strong technical capability and the confidence to work collaboratively with staff, clergy and volunteers. Experience in education will be valued, although applicants from other regulated sectors are encouraged. An appreciation of, and respect for, the Greek Orthodox ethos and values of the Parish and College is essential; personal adherence to the faith is not required.

• Demonstrated understanding of child safeguarding, student safety and the regulatory obligations that support a safe K-12 learning environment.


• Proven capacity to evaluate existing risk and compliance arrangements and implement practical systems, policies and continuous improvement.


• Strong ability to build organisational capability through effective advice, training and collaborative engagement with staff and volunteers.


• Demonstrated expertise in enterprise risk management, WHS, governance, audits, investigations, assurance and business continuity.


• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the capacity to work constructively with school, Parish and Board representatives.

This is a permanent appointment, initially full-time, with flexible working arrangements potentially available. A four-day working week may be considered after an initial full-time period. Applicants require at least three years of relevant experience and risk and compliance certification or other relevant professional qualifications.
