Job summary

Afterpay is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Consumer Lending Team in Melbourne to lead technical strategy and build scalable Global Lending solutions for 24M+ customers across Afterpay, Cash App and Web Portals.

You will own end-to-end delivery, collaborate with cross-functional teams, drive reliability improvements, and champion initiatives with wide organizational impact while embracing AI tools to boost speed and quality.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience building scalable software using JVM languages.
Experience with Spring Boot and ORM/Hibernate.
Experience with gRPC, Kafka, Redis, Temporal.
Cloud experience, preferably AWS.
Strong logging, monitoring, and alerting practices.
Experience in agile environments.

Responsibilities

Own software lifecycle end to end - design to production and support.
Collaborate in cross-functional Product engineering teams to drive discovery, delivery and validation of features.
Drive system consolidations and service improvements for reliability and performance.
Identify and champion technical initiatives with organizational impact beyond team boundaries.
Influence technical direction and standards across multiple teams.
Leverage AI tools to improve engineering speed, quality and learning.
