Job summary

City of Boroondara is seeking casual Relief Librarians to provide high-quality customer service and information services across our library network. You will assist with readers' advisory, promote collections and programs, and help with day-to-day library operations across sites.

The role offers flexibility with weekday and weekend shifts, opportunities to supervise staff on rosters as Day Senior, and the chance to engage with diverse community groups while supporting digital literacy

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification that confers eligibility for professional membership of ALIA.
• Experience working in a library environment, preferably within a public library.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• The ability to confidently assist customers with digital technology and information tools.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, support and mentor staff.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and web-based technologies.
• An appreciation of diverse cultures and communities; additional language skills are highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional frontline customer service in person, by phone and online.
• Provide readers' advisory, reference and information services.
• Promote library collections, digital resources, programs and events.
• Support library operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling and maintaining welcoming library spaces.
• Assist with collection presentation, stock management and merchandising.
• Supervise service delivery and support staff when rostered as Day Senior.
• Work collaboratively across library locations to meet service needs.
