Job summary

Career Management Services (CMS) is seeking a Rehabilitation Case Manager to lead trauma-informed case management for psychological and physical injury claims in NSW. You will work with injured workers, employers, treating clinicians, and insurers, with clinical supervision and governance backing you.

Autonomy in how you run files, with a national backing and hybrid working. CMS offers professional development, supervision, and a supportive NSW team structure to support complex rehabilitation

Qualifications

• Trauma-informed practice and risk recognition are essential.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills are required.
• Experience managing psychological injury claims is highly desirable.
• Willingness to travel across Sydney and greater NSW.
• Current driver’s licence is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage an allocated caseload end to end, including psychological and physical injury claims.
• Collaborate with frontline responders and insurers to support return-to-work plans.
• Design graduated, staged rehabilitation programs accounting for triggers and shifts.
• Negotiate suitable duties, host employment, and alternate placements.
• Draft clear, defensible reports aligned with treatment plans.
• Coordinate with treating practitioners to ensure governance and safety.

Job description

Join a small, purpose-built NSW team with a national business behind it.

You will manage a caseload of psychological, complex and physical injury claims from referral through to closure, working alongside injured workers, their employers, treating psychiatrists and psychologists, and insurers. Reporting initially to our CEO and moving to our incoming Rehabilitation Manager, you will have real autonomy over how you run your files with clinical supervision and governance behind you.

Key responsibilities

• Trauma-informed case management - own an allocated caseload of psychological, complex and concurrent physical injury claims, end to end.
• Working with frontline - personnel police, emergency services and other first responders presenting with PTSD, cumulative trauma, anxiety and depression.
• Return to work planning - design graduated and staged programs that account for triggers, operational exposure, shift patterns, uniform and workplace location.
• Suitable duties and placements - negotiate alternative, non-operational and host employment options where a return to substantive duties is not realistic.
• Vocational rehabilitation - transferable skills analysis, labour market research, retraining and placement, including where medical discharge is in prospect.
• Assessment - initial needs, workplace, functional and vocational assessments and job task analyses.
• Reporting - clear, evidence-based reports that hold up in a contested claims environment.
• Collaboration - work with treating practitioners so rehabilitation activity aligns with the treatment plan, and manage disclosure and stigma sensitively within command structures.

About you

• Tertiary qualification with current registration or accreditation in Psychology (AHPRA), Rehabilitation Counselling (ASORC/RCSA), Occupational Therapy (AHPRA) or Social Work (AASW).
• Experience managing psychological injury claims in occupational rehabilitation, injury management or workers compensation.
• Demonstrated experience with PTSD, cumulative trauma and complex psychological presentations.
• Competence in trauma-informed practice, and the judgement to recognise and upscale risk appropriately.
• Experience managing claims with both psychological and physical injury components.
• Working knowledge of the NSW workers compensation scheme and its requirements for psychological injury claims.
• Confident writing defensible reports and holding a position under scrutiny.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills - you can bring a worker, an employer, a treating psychiatrist and an insurer to the same plan.
• Current driver's licence and willingness to travel across Sydney and greater NSW.
• Willingness to undergo a National Police Check, any additional clearance we require, and reference checks.
