Job summary

Department of Health in Victoria is seeking a Solicitor in the Public Law and Legislation Team to provide strategic public law advice and comprehensive legislation services across health portfolios. You will draft primary legislation, regulations, and related instruments, and support Ministers, the Secretary, and stakeholders with expert legal analysis.

Qualifications

Must hold (or be eligible to hold) a current practicing certificate under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Vic).
Minimum 2 years post admission experience preferred.
Experience in government/legislative processes and/or providing legal advice to government is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Provide high level, well-reasoned legal advice, drafting and other legal documents, as well as briefings and correspondence.
Collaborate with departmental colleagues to deliver client-focused legal services.
Liaise with external stakeholders including barristers and other government agencies on a wide range of legal and policy issues.
Prepare briefs and instruct counsel in the County and Supreme Courts under Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997.
