Job summary

The NSW Rural Fire Service is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the Red Fleet Ownership and Maintenance Transfer Program, a major enterprise reform gaining transfer of ownership and lifecycle accountability from local councils from 1 July 2027. The role reports to the Director, Fleet Transition and demands delivery leadership across multiple workstreams and stakeholders.

  • Attractive annual salary $135,149 - $148,929 p.a. plus 12% superannuation

The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) is currently undergoing one of its most significant organisational reform initiatives – The Red Fleet Reform Program. The program will prepare RFS to assume ownership, maintenance responsibility, accounting control and lifecycle accountability for the Red Fleet from local councils. Through this reform, the RFS will strengthen fleet governance, accountability and operational capability, ensuring firefighters and volunteers have access to safe, reliable and fit-for-purpose vehicles when our communities need them most.

As part of a service that protects approximately 95% of NSW and relies on the commitment of more than 70,000 volunteers and staff, this program will have a lasting impact on emergency service delivery across the state. Working alongside senior leaders, members, councils, government agencies and industry partners, you will help deliver a landmark reform that supports the RFS mission of protecting lives, property, communities and the environment, while helping establish a sustainable future operating model for one of the state's largest emergency service fleets.

What you’ll be doing:

The NSW Rural Fire Service is seeking an experienced and delivery focused Project Manager to support the Red Fleet Ownership and Maintenance Transfer Program, a major enterprise transition program preparing the RFS to assume Red Fleet ownership, maintenance responsibility, accounting control and lifecycle accountability from local councils from 1 July 2027.

This role will report to the Director, Fleet Transition and provide senior project management leadership, delivery coordination and program control support across a complex, enterprise reform, working closely with senior leaders, program governance forums, workstream leads, project teams, members, councils, suppliers and other government stakeholders.

  • Proven success leading and delivering complex, large-scale enterprise projects and reform initiatives within dynamic and multifaceted environments.
  • Extensive experience applying both Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies, with the ability to adapt approaches to meet business and program objectives.
  • Highly developed skills in project governance, planning, reporting, scheduling, risk and dependency management, benefits realisation, and program assurance.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, influencing and negotiation capabilities, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Advanced expertise in corporate strategy, performance reporting and business improvement, with a genuine appreciation for the unique challenges and opportunities of a volunteer-based community service organisation.
