Job summary

Hitachi Energy Australia in Melbourne is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to deliver high-quality solutions across complex projects, providing technical leadership, customer engagement, risk management, and strong safety and quality performance.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate design, testing, commissioning, and documentation, and collaborate with customers, suppliers, and project teams to ensure on-time delivery and value realization.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years' experience with HV equipment, substations, and project delivery.
• Strong knowledge of AS/IEC standards and Safety in Design principles.
• Proficiency in reading technical drawings and documentation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

How You'll Make An Impact

• Lead and coordinate electrical engineering activities across multiple projects, including design, review, testing, commissioning, drafting support, and site installation.
• Provide specialist technical expertise, resolving complex engineering and quality issues while supporting customers, project teams, and manufacturing facilities.
• Support the preparation of project proposals and tenders through the development of bills of materials, engineering estimates, and technical documentation.
• Partner with Contract Managers to manage scope variations, claims, risk assessments, and contract compliance while delivering cost-effective solutions.
• Develop and manage project work plans, budgets, schedules, and engineering deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and opportunities, providing recommendations to address quality, cost, schedule, and contractual issues.
• Build strong relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders, representing the engineering team in project meetings and technical discussions.
• Collaborate with supply chain and procurement teams to define technical requirements, evaluate supplier proposals, and approve equipment and services.
• Drive engineering excellence by implementing best practices, ensuring compliance with safety and contractual requirements, and promoting continuous improvement.
• Mentor and support engineers, technicians, and project staff, providing technical leadership and contributing to capability development across the team.

Your Background

• Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in High Voltage (HV) equipment, power substations, and electrical engineering project delivery.
• Demonstrated experience in electrical design, design coordination, Safety in Design (SiD), constructability reviews, testing, commissioning, and quality assurance.
• Strong knowledge and application of Australian and international engineering standards, including AS and IEC standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage customers, contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and commercial acumen with a results-driven approach.
• Ability to confidently communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement, safety, and quality.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and provide technical guidance to colleagues and project teams.
