Job summary

Enertia Talent is seeking a Design Manager for HV substation projects in Australia. You will provide technical leadership across design and delivery, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and external consultants through the full project lifecycle.

The role includes pre-sales input, design delivery, construction and energisation, with a focus on 110kV+ substations, standards adherence, and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
• 5–10 years of engineering experience with strong HV substation exposure.
• Experience in EHV substation design, 110kV and above.
• Strong understanding of substation design, standards and technical specifications.
• Experience leading design teams and coordinating external consultants.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management across technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical input to sales and tender teams on design, scope and constructability.
• Own end-to-end design delivery of HV substation projects from early design to completion.
• Coordinate civil, structural, primary and secondary disciplines for accuracy and constructability.
• Lead internal design teams, external consultants and OEMs to align design, procurement and technical requirements.
• Attend client, supplier and subcontractor meetings to negotiate requirements and resolve design issues.
• Own the design programme with the Project Manager, managing interfaces and schedules through to completion.

About Your New Role

As the Design Manager, you will provide technical leadership across the design and delivery of HV substation projects, working closely with internal project teams, external engineering consultants and key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

You will provide technical input from the pre-sales stage, oversee design delivery, coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, manage external consultants and provide technical support through construction, commissioning and energisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical input to sales and tender teams, covering design, scope and constructability
• Own the end-to-end design delivery of HV substation projects, from early design through to completion
• Coordinate civil, structural, primary and secondary disciplines to ensure technical accuracy and constructability
• Manage internal design teams, external consultants and OEMs, aligning design, procurement and technical requirements
• Attend meetings with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal management to negotiate requirements and resolve design issues
• Own the design programme alongside the Project Manager, managing interfaces, deliverables and schedule through to completion

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• 5-10 years of relevant engineering experience with strong HV substation exposure
• Experience in EHV substation design, with projects at 110kV and above
• Strong understanding of substation design, engineering standards and technical specifications
• Experience leading design teams, managing external consultants and supporting end-to-end project delivery
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
