Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Engineer – HV Infrastructure to join their Power & Energy function. This role is crucial in delivering high-voltage infrastructure projects, ensuring technical precision from design through construction, commissioning, and energisation. Working in collaboration with HV Project Managers, the Grid Connection Manager, and the DC Engineering team, you will oversee engineering workstreams, solve technical challenges, and maintain project momentum.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure projects involving HV substations, transformers, switchgear, cables, protection and control systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and related infrastructure.

About The Role

As a Project Engineer – HV Infrastructure, you will lead the technical aspects of assigned deliverables and interfaces, ensuring a cohesive approach with EPC contractors, consultants, and OEMs to deliver timely and efficient project outcomes. Your focus will include design coordination, technical change management, equipment integration, and construction readiness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee assigned HV engineering workstreams, creating and managing technical action plans and deliverable schedules.
  • Identify and address construction or commissioning challenges proactively.
  • Investigate and resolve technical queries, design conflicts, non-conformances, and equipment interface issues in collaboration with EPC contractors, consultants, and OEMs.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, equipment data, and design submissions for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Facilitate and lead technical coordination meetings and issue-resolution sessions, ensuring accountability and timely outcomes.
  • Manage the approval process for EPC deliverables, RFIs, equipment submissions, and documentation.
  • Organise and lead design workshops, constructability assessments, and interface coordination between HV EPC, OEMs, consultants, and data centre teams.
  • Track and evaluate technical changes, assessing their impact on project schedules, procurement, and construction.
  • Provide technical support during construction, installation, testing, and energisation activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage technical participation in FATs, SATs, site inspections, and commissioning reviews.
  • Maintain registers for technical issues, design changes, RFIs, interfaces, and deliverables related to assigned workstreams.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in HV engineering, substations, utilities, renewable energy, or large-scale electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Proven capability in managing engineering deliverables and interfaces during design, construction, or commissioning stages of HV assets.
  • Hands-on experience working with EPC contractors, engineering consultants, and OEMs to resolve technical issues and manage design changes.
  • In-depth understanding of Australian electrical standards and safety requirements.
  • Expertise in HV substations and delivering technical components of electrical infrastructure.
  • Strong competence in interpreting single-line diagrams, equipment drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Technical knowledge of transformers, switchgear, HV cables, protection and control systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Robust problem-solving skills with the ability to independently address technical issues and implement effective solutions.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Partner with project teams to ensure technical deliverables are achieved within timelines and scope.
  • Conduct technical reviews of designs, specifications, and equipment data.
  • Lead coordination meetings to resolve technical challenges and align stakeholders.
  • Monitor technical change registers and evaluate their impact on project timelines.
  • Participate in on-site inspections, FATs, SATs, and commissioning efforts.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of technical challenges, design changes, and engineering deliverables.
Benefits of the Role
  • Work on cutting-edge, high-voltage infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborative, innovative, and supportive work environment.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Contribute to shaping the future of energy infrastructure on a global scale.
